Twin Towns
During the post-war period, town twinning greatly helped European countries bring people closer together. The personal encounters opened up new perspectives and were very supportive for mutual understanding and trust. This aspect is still up-to-date today, in times of integration and of a united Europe.
Aschaffenburg maintains intensive relations with twin towns in Scotland, France and Hungary. School exchanges are an important part of this concept. In particular, it is a big opportunity for young people to get to know the hospitality in the twin towns and a different culture.
There are regular mutual visits of associations, music and sports groups as well, which contribute to mutual communication. Providing help in the event of problems also goes without saying as a part of town twinning.
The office of the Lord Mayor voluntarily provides advice both for meetings of associations and for school exchanges. In addition, three associations for friends of the town twinning were established which provide valuable support with the planning of trips or for the care of guests in Aschaffenburg.
